CAS PD-2Z and PD2 Scale Discontinued: PDN Replacement Guide

The CAS PD-2Z Series, also commonly searched as the CAS PD2, PD-2, PD2Z or PD-II scale, has been replaced by the current CAS PDN Series of POS interface scales.

Compare the former PD-2Z models with the current PDN-12, PDN-30 and PDN-60, then confirm capacity, connection type, interface cable and POS compatibility before ordering.

CAS PDN POS interface scale replacing discontinued CAS PD-2Z and PD2 scales

The CAS PD-2Z Series has been discontinued

New purchases should be directed to the current CAS PDN Series. The PDN family is available in 12 lb, 30 lb and 60 lb capacities and is designed to communicate weight data to compatible point-of-sale systems and electronic cash registers.

Existing PD-2Z scales may continue to work in an installed system. However, customers replacing a failed or aging scale should not assume the new model will be plug-and-play with the existing cable, port, protocol or software configuration.

Other names customers use for the CAS PD-2Z

Model names are frequently written differently on purchase records, service tickets and internet searches. Check the label on the existing scale to confirm the exact model and capacity.

Replacement planning

Should you replace a working PD-2Z now?

Not necessarily. If the existing PD-2Z is operating correctly and remains supported by the current POS system, it may continue to be usable. However, businesses should begin planning for replacement because the PD-2Z is no longer the current model.

Model transition

CAS PD-2Z to PDN replacement chart

This chart identifies the current PDN model to evaluate. It does not guarantee compatibility with a particular POS system, cash register, interface cable or installation.

Former model Former capacity Current model to evaluate Important consideration
PD-2Z15 15 lb CAS PDN-12 The PDN-12 has a 12 lb maximum capacity. It is not an identical 15 lb replacement. Confirm that 12 lb is sufficient for every product being weighed.
PD-2ZS30 30 lb CAS PDN-30 Confirm the POS protocol, connection type, interface cable and mounting requirements.
PD-2Z30 30 lb CAS PDN-30 The capacity is comparable, but existing PD-2Z cables and configuration settings should not be assumed compatible.
PD-2Z60 60 lb CAS PDN-60 Confirm the required communication port, protocol, cable, power method and counter dimensions.
PD-2Z150 150 lb Contact Spartan POS The PDN Series covered by this guide tops out at 60 lb. A different CAS scale family may be required.

Important: The CAS PDN-12 is the closest current lower-capacity PDN option for a former PD-2Z15. It should not be described as an exact 15 lb replacement.

Before placing an order

Confirm compatibility before replacing a PD2 scale

A scale can have the correct capacity and still be incompatible with the existing checkout system. Send Spartan POS the information below before ordering when you are uncertain about the installation.

1. Existing scale model Provide the complete model number from the label on the old scale, such as PD-2Z30 or PD-2Z60.
2. POS software or cash register Include the software name, version and terminal or register model.
3. Connection type Identify whether the existing system uses USB, RS-232 serial, Bluetooth or another interface.
4. Cable information Send a photo of both cable ends and any part number printed on the cable.
5. Required capacity Identify the heaviest product the business expects to weigh, including containers or packaging.
6. Installation style Tell us whether the scale will sit on a counter, be recessed into the counter or use a remote customer display.

Do not assume the existing PD-2Z cable can be reused. The POS protocol, wiring, connector, communication settings, power source and application configuration must all be correct for the replacement scale to work.

  • Mixed PDN-12, PDN-30 and PDN-60 orders
  • Cable and interface review
  • Multi-location fulfillment

Replacement questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the CAS PD-2Z discontinued?

The PD-2Z models covered by this guide have been replaced by the current CAS PDN Series. Spartan POS is retaining PD-2Z information so customers can identify the former scale and find a current model.

Is the CAS PD2 the same as the CAS PD-2Z?

Customers often shorten or vary the model name when searching. PD2, PD-2, PD2Z and PD-II may be used informally, but the model label should be checked for the exact manufacturer model and capacity.

What replaces the CAS PD-2Z30?

The CAS PDN-30 is the current 30 lb model to evaluate. Confirm the POS software, ECR protocol, interface type, cable and configuration before ordering.

What replaces the CAS PD-2Z60?

The CAS PDN-60 is the current 60 lb model to evaluate. Matching capacity does not guarantee the new scale will work with the existing cable or POS setup.

Does the PDN-12 directly replace the PD-2Z15?

Not exactly. The former model had a 15 lb capacity, while the PDN-12 has a 12 lb capacity. The PDN-12 may be suitable only when every item being weighed remains within its 12 lb maximum.

What replaces the PD-2Z150?

The PDN models on this page have maximum capacities of 12, 30 and 60 lb. A 150 lb application may require a different CAS scale family.

Can I reuse my existing PD-2Z serial cable?

Do not assume the old cable is compatible. The wiring, pinout, protocol, communication settings and power requirements must match.

Does the CAS PDN work with every POS system?

No. The POS software must support a compatible scale protocol, and the correct port, cable, driver and configuration must be used.

Does the PDN include an RS-232 cable?

Only accessories specifically listed with the purchased item should be assumed included. Interface cables, remote displays, Bluetooth modules, edge trays and power blocks may be optional.

Can the PDN be powered through USB?

The PDN supports USB 5-volt power. Installations using optional Bluetooth or RS-232C communication may require an optional USB AC power block.

Is the CAS PDN legal for trade?

The manufacturer brochure lists NTEP Certificate of Conformance number 22-046. Local registration, inspection, sealing and installation requirements may still apply.

How does the 5% PDN promotional discount work?

The discount is applied automatically to eligible CAS PDN products in the cart and at checkout. No code or minimum purchase is required. It cannot be combined with other product, order or shipping discounts.

Can Spartan POS help identify the correct replacement?

Yes. Send the old scale model, POS or cash-register model, software name, required capacity, connection type and photographs of the existing cable and scale label.
