Receipt Paper and Printer Roll Selection Guide

This finder helps customers compare thermal receipt paper, 80mm receipt paper, 58mm receipt paper, 3 1/8-inch paper, 2 1/4-inch paper, bond paper, kitchen-printer paper, two-ply paper, mobile-printer paper, sticky paper, repositionable paper, liner-free media, and kiosk paper rolls.

How to Choose Receipt Paper

Thermal vs. Bond Paper

Thermal paper uses a heat-sensitive coating and does not require an ink ribbon. Bond paper is used with impact printers and normally requires an ink ribbon. Multi-ply bond rolls can create duplicate or triplicate copies.

80mm, 58mm, and 76mm Paper

80mm paper is often described as 3 1/8 inch and is common in full-size POS receipt printers. 58mm paper is often described as 2 1/4 inch and is common in compact printers. 76mm or 3-inch paper is used by selected impact and specialty printers. Confirm the printer specification rather than relying only on the common name.

Roll Diameter and Length

A roll can have the correct width and still be too large for the printer. Confirm outside diameter, roll length, paper thickness, core size, paper-compartment clearance, and cutter clearance.

Sticky and Liner-Free Paper

Sticky and liner-free media use adhesive-backed material for food preparation, delivery, routing, bins, totes, and temporary identification. The printer must be designed or approved for the exact media because adhesive, cutter, platen, sensor, and paper-path requirements can differ.

Mobile Printer Paper

Mobile printers use compact rolls, fanfold media, or cut sheets depending on the model. Match the exact printer, width, outside diameter, core, sensing method, media thickness, and environmental requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use any 80mm roll in an 80mm printer?

No. Roll diameter, length, core, thickness, coating, cutter clearance, and printer design still matter.

What is the difference between 3 1/8-inch and 80mm paper?

They are often used as equivalent descriptions, but actual manufactured width can vary slightly. Confirm the printer's supported width and the paper specification.

Does thermal paper expire?

Thermal images can fade with heat, light, chemicals, oils, plasticizers, and poor storage. Expected image life depends on the paper grade and storage conditions.

Can sticky receipt paper work in a normal thermal printer?

Not automatically. Adhesive-backed media can require a specially designed paper path, cutter, platen, and sensor. Confirm the printer and approved media family.

Will the finder show exact paper products?

Yes. It loads live products from Spartan POS receipt-paper and sticky-media collections and ranks them against printer model, part number, width, roll size, application, and special features.
