The Zebra ZT231 is a 4-inch industrial label printer with a metal frame and metal enclosures, a 4.3-inch color touch screen and standard USB, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet and USB Host ports. Does the Zebra ZT231 need a ribbon?
Only the thermal transfer (T) configurations use ribbon: 450 m standard length, 2 to 4.33 in. wide, on a 1 in. core. Direct thermal (D) configurations need no ribbon.
Can the ZT231 print 4 x 6 shipping labels?
Yes. It has a 4.09 in. maximum print width and accepts media 0.75 to 4.50 in. wide; Zebra lists shipping/receiving labeling among its applications.
Tear bar, cutter or peel: which should I choose?
Tear bar configurations tear labels off at the printer (minimum label length 0.7 in.). The cutter is a front-mount guillotine cutter (minimum 1 in.). Peel configurations use a front-mount passive peeler with a liner take-up spindle, a factory-fit option (minimum 0.5 in.).
What is the difference between the 203 dpi and 300 dpi models?
203 dpi models print up to 12 in. per second with a 157 in. maximum print length and support EPL and ZPL. 300 dpi models (12 dots/mm) print up to 8 in. per second with a 73 in. maximum print length and use ZPL.
Does the ZT231 have Wi-Fi?
Not as standard. The standard ports are USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet and USB Host; Zebra offers an 802.11ac Wi-Fi option card.
